Book Reviews
Kayla TrnkaI Heard You Can Draw: A Story for Class Artists Everywhere: Another great book for the collection! I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I liked how it gave a perspective of a student who IS good at art. So many of the books I have deal with not feeling confident in our art (which is excellent), but I liked the new perspective of a student who knows they can draw and enjoys art class. I also liked how in this book the student learns to stand up for themselves and draw things only THEY want, not to please other people. It's a great book with a new perspective to bring to your art students!chieflotsahairI Heard You Can Draw: A Story for Class Artists Everywhere: Great story for teaching boundaries! This is a great story! It has a great message for students to learn how to set boundaries and learn how to say no. I plan to use this in my art classroom.clean freakI Heard You Can Draw: A Story for Class Artists Everywhere: Great Book! I love this book and cannot wait to share it with my students. It tells the story of a little girl who loves to draw. When her classmates learn how good she is, they ask her to draw things for them. After many drawings for others, her hand died. She takes a trip to the school nurse who tells her to draw what she wants to draw and not what others want her to draw. Once she draws what she is feeling, her hand comes back and she can draw again.. It is a great message for children and will open up a good discussion.MEGAN BEHLINGI Heard You Can Draw: A Story for Class Artists Everywhere: Great message for artists! This is a great little story with a nice message. I will be using this book in my art room class library. I see this happening sometimes in my class, so I can direct students to check out the book for advice. Well done!Kim HiggsI Heard You Can Draw: A Story for Class Artists Everywhere: Inspire your reluctant artists! Many times my students are reluctant to try or continue to draw when they feel their work doesn’t measure up to their own expectations or what they feel others can or are doing. This is a sweet little book to help change their mindset and set them up to just be free to draw.Amazon CustomerI Heard You Can Draw: A Story for Class Artists Everywhere: Great story for remembering your why I can’t wait to read this to my elementary art classroom students. I love to see what my students are drawing when they finish early with projects and continue to encourage their creativity. Remembering it is okay to say no to others and do things for yourself is important to keep loving what you are doing.BritI Heard You Can Draw: A Story for Class Artists Everywhere: Great for the art classroom I received this book and it made my day! I am an art teacher and plan to add this to my class library. I loved the sketchbook in the back of the book. 10/10 would recommend!photogirlI Heard You Can Draw: A Story for Class Artists Everywhere: Great art book! This is a great story and a wonderful addition to my Art book library!T WarrenI Heard You Can Draw: A Story for Class Artists Everywhere: Great book for the classroom! Growing up, I was always that kid who could draw. Everyone would want me to draw things for them too, which wasn't fun for me. I wanted to draw what I wanted to. Drawing what everyone demanded made it so that it wasn't fun anymore. I loved purchasing this book, because now as an art teacher I have students who face similar obstacles. This will be a nice way of explaining how they feel when they are asked all the time, and how other students can understand.Cheryl DeanI Heard You Can Draw: A Story for Class Artists Everywhere: I Heard You Can Draw I adore this book and it will be part of my art teacher books. I’ve been an art teacher, counselor, then back to art teacher at this time…for 41 years There is a “Sarah”, a class artist, in every grade level who can draw just about anything. Students overwhelm that artist with requests as they did Sarah. Losing the use of her hand for drawing, Sarah learned some important lessons for life... Lesson in setting boundaries, lesson in how to say “no”, lesson in being true to yourself. This book is great for an art teacher’s collection but also for a counselor to use with a student or an entire class. I love this book!Amazon rating score: 5.0 of 5, based on 17 reviews
“Wow! This book is a treasure trove for teachers! It goes way farther than just introducing and giving examples of various lines. It also connects the different lines to what emotions they would look like adding an opportunity for movement when you are reading it. This book is chock full of art vocabulary and is written in a fun and entertaining rhyme. I love how the author also uses examples of real artwork to provide another visual representation of the different lines. So much in this book!” – Amazon Review
“Highly recommend this book for budding youth artists! As an educator and mom of two young kiddos, I love the juxtaposition of fun informative text, examples that come alive for kids (and adults), and spaces to practice inside the book! It makes the book feel like an interactive art class!” – Amazon Review
