Welcome!
Do you have a child who LOVES to draw? Are you looking for an art class that will help them develop their skills in a creative and supportive environment? You’ve found the right place.
We offer high-quality art classes for kids and adults in our Boca Raton art studio: 4950 Communication Ave., Boca Raton, FL 33431.
Michelle Sherman is a certified K-12 Art instructor, who creates lessons that teach the technical skills needed for drawing and painting.
Michelle draws on her own experiences of being an art student at Bak MSOA (then called the School of the Arts) and Dreyfoos SOA, a summer program in the School of Visual Arts in NYC, a year at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in, as well as her background in teaching art for over 15 years.
As a visual arts teacher at Bak MSOA, she created a rigorous curriculum for 6th and 7th grade art majors. Michelle holds an M.A. in Art Education from the University of Florida and loves teaching art to kids who are excited to learn.

to the
world of
Drawing
We are serious about drawing! It is a fundamental skill for artists whether they stick to drawing or branch out into other areas of visual expression. We believe it is important to be able to understand the world around us through drawing. All classes have some type of drawing component, although in our Essential Drawing class, we learn how to draw and shade forms thoroughly. We study form, light, value, and a bit of perspective. The Essential Drawing class is also to help prepare students who are interested in auditioning for Bak Middle School of the Arts.
Creative Arts Class (Ages 4-8)
Children in this class learn a variety of different mediums, they learn about different artists from different time periods. This class is intended to open the doors to creative exploration through a variety of prompts and materials. This is a precious time for young artists, where they are absorbing new information and they are eager to create, yet they also need time for their own self-expression without too much interference. We bring a balance of both to each class, where we introduce new subjects while allowing young students to develop their own style and expression with the materials.
Drawing and Painting Class (Ages 9+)
In this class, students will learn drawing and painting fundamentals, including value, proportion, perspective. This is the class for art students who are seriously ready to take their drawing and painting skills to the next level. This is the next class for students after taking the Creative Arts Class.
Teen Drawing Lab (Ages 12-17)
Students with a love of drawing will be guided to learn the subtleties about line and value in their drawing. Students will complete warm up exercises as well as longer projects from observation.
Painting
Students will understand how to see and create value in objects, basic color theory principles, and how to paint from observation. We use acrylics and watercolor mediums. Drawing is an important foundation in painting from observation, so we reference drawing when we paint in order to compare proportions, sizes and shapes of our objects. Subject matter may be a still-life, self-portrait, or from the imagination.
Printmaking
We love printmaking in our studio! We do a lot of block printing, specifically linocuts. A linocut is a modern variation of the traditional woodcut. Students who begin to advance in this form will work on reduction prints where many layers are created with different colors. Younger students will try printmaking with a variety of techniques such as using foam, stamps, monoprinting, and more. There are endless possibilities with this art form.
Bak and Dreyfoos Auditions
Is your child planning to audition for Bak MSOA or Dreyfoos? We got you covered. From one-on-one lessons to full semester drawing classes, we will make sure your child is prepared and confident for this audition. These classes are available in the Fall only.
It’s always a good idea to go in prepared. Some students just need a one-on-one lesson to get pointed in the right direction, while other students might opt for three lessons or a full semester to thoroughly understand drawing and shading from observation. We will go over how to approach drawing the still-life, how to attack the creative exercises for the Bak audition, and for Dreyfoos we will help with how to draw the still life, self-portrait drawing and how to approach the paper sculpture assignment. We always follow the posted guidelines for each school’s requirements, which may change year-to-year.
Private Lessons
If you are looking for one on one lessons for your child, this is for you. We will work out a time that fits our schedules and create a curriculum just for your child. Private lessons could be weekly for the school year, or a few classes here and there to work on a specific skill. Email MichelleShermanArt@gmail.com discuss further.
Summer Art Camp
Creative kids ages 5-12 who LOVE art will love our camp. Students will be challenged to learn new techniques and create original art while making new friends and soaking up the creative atmosphere of our art studio. Each week, students will be presented with a new topic, medium, skill or artist to learn about. Weekly topics have included: Mythical Creatures, Printmaking, 3D Art, Cartooning, How to Draw Awesome Things, and more. Students will learn about drawing and shading, linear perspective, drawing/painting en plein air (outside like many Impressionists have done), and more. Check our gallery for photos from previous summers. We are lucky to be in the BRiC building, and we are always inspired by BRiC’s architecture, history of IBM computers, the courtyard, art on the walls, and even the Watchbot that roams the halls. We use all of this as inspiration for our own artwork as well. Students will work under the supervision of Mrs. Sherman and her junior counselor. This will be a summer to remember!
Mini Camps
When school is out, what better way to spend the morning than being creative in the art studio? These camps are designed as intensive workshops where students will create art centered around learning a new skill or technique, art history, or a certain medium. These 4-hour workshops are highly engaging and educational. Classes run from 9:00am-1:00pm, and we take a snack and lunch break in the BRiC cafe. Students will be immersed in the art studio and get into the “creative flow”. During these workshops, we have a junior counselor working alongside Mrs. Sherman.
